Surface modification treatments for enhancing product performance
1. Ion plating
- Types of coating film: TiN and TiCN
- Film thickness: It varies depending on products' types and sizes. In most cases, it ranges two to three micrometers for TiN and 2.5 to 3.5 for TiCN.
- Treatment temperature: Approximately 530 ・C except for ultrahard materials. It is not preferable if tempering temperature for die steels and other materials is lower than coating temperature. Please ask us in advance.
Available size: Materials that can be put in a reverse circular truncated cone (160mm (diameter) x 190mm (diameter) x 280mm (high).) If diameter of materials is small, height can be longer up to 320 mm. Please ask us about detailed information.

2. WPC treatment
WPC treatment is revolutionary surface modification method developed from a shot-peening treatment, in which particulate media are blasted to steels at higher pressure. WPC treatment is effective method to extend the life of cutting tools, mold tools and rolls even when used alone. However, combining it with a duplex heat treatment, such as coating or nitriding, generates synergy effect and realizes better product performance.

Available size and weight: 300 mm in diameter and 30 Kg at a maximum

3. Gas nitrocarburizing
This is a nitrocarburizing treatment utilizing methyl alcohol as a source of carbon and cracked ammonia gas as a nitrogen source. It is used for tools made of high-speed steels.

With regard to properties of nitrided cases, for example, target value of the surface hardness after nitriding for tools made of high-speed steels is 1100 HV or more; however, nitriding case depth will be appropriately controlled so that cutting edges will not get brittle. Please let us know if products require deep nitriding case.

4. Steam treatment

This method is mainly used for cutting tools made of high-speed steels and forms hard oxide films on surface using superheated steam approximately at 500 ・C.
Although it can be used alone, in most cases, it is used for duplex treatment with gas nitrocarburizing.
